Why Choose Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathy offers natural health solutions for ailments as simiple as the common cold, to those suffering from conditions without a cure or even a definite diagnosis. Using traditional medical practices that are in harmony with the most recent research findings, Naturopathic Dr’s are able to diagnose and treat conditions through the gentle means of homeopathy, nutrition, acupuncture, herbal medicine and lifestyle coaching.
Dr. Misaghi earned her bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Toronto and obtained her Naturopathic education from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. She has further training in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture through preceptorship experiences with practitioners in Zhuhai, China. She also maintains a regular online health blog where she discusses the latest health topics and novel treatments, shares healthy recipes as well as motivational pieces.
I am a Doctor of Naturopathic medicine with a firm belief in the healing powers of nature (see principles). I have always been interested in the science of the human body. Modern medicine however, having reduced the human body to a machine* lost its appeal to me directing my studies and life’s purpose to naturopathic medicine’s approach to healing and wellness.
Naturopathy’s humanistic approach to health and disease is that disease is a manifestation of a disruption in the equilibrium of one or more systems in the body with a return to health upon its rebalance. Your body knows how to care for itself given it has what it requires. I hope to educate, motivate and inspire those who are considering taking control of their well-being through these blogs and in my private practice. My inspiration for these blogs stem mainly from my own healing journey and reinforced through my eight years of study as well as insights gained through interactions with others on their personal healing journey in my clinical practice.
As a naturopath my visits with patients involve taking a thorough health history, physical examination and laboratory analysis in order to make accurate diagnosis from which a treatment plan is then devised. Treatments involve both alleviation of symptoms and cure. Through the modalities available to me (acupuncture, botanical medicine, homeopathy, nutrition & lifestyle counseling), I strive to find the best treatment meeting my patients’ needs such that an alleviation of suffering can be achieved while addressing the root cause of dis-ease. This involves getting to know my patients as the unique individuals that they are on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels in order to bring about total health rather than merely addressing the conglomerate symptoms of each disease. According to the World Health Organization, “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” I believe we are now more and more approaching the future that Thomas Edison predicted when he said, “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest her or his patients in the care of the human frame, in a proper diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
Yours in Health,
Dr. Negin Misaghi, ND
* The conventional treatment for the malfunctioning of this ‘machine’ is with drugs and surgery. Although such modalities are necessary in critical conditions, it has unfortunately become the norm. However, many of today’s illnesses can be resolved by gentler, more effective treatments working in harmony with the body’s natural healing process.
